Royal & SunAlliance
Royal & SunAlliance is one of the world's leading multinational quoted insurance groups, writing business in 130 countries and with major operations in the UK, Scandinavia, Canada, Ireland, the Middle East and Latin America. Focusing on general insurance, it has around 24,000 employees and, in 2005, its net written premiums were £5.4bn. With an almost 300-year heritage Royal & SunAlliance is the oldest insurance company in the world still trading under its original name.
Within the UK, Royal & SunAlliance is the second largest commercial lines insurer, covering the insurance and risk management needs of a significant number of FTSE 100 companies. It has a full multi-distribution capability, writing business through brokers and corporate partners, direct and online. Norwich Union
Norwich Union Insurance is the largest general insurer in the UK and produces about 60% of Aviva's general insurance business. It has a market share of 15%. The company insures one in five households, one in seven motor vehicles and about 800,000 businesses in the UK. It has 4.3 million customers. Following the acquisition of RAC, Norwich Union Insurance employs about 22,000 staff in more than 40 locations across the UK, and has operations in India and Sri Lanka.
Norwich Union is the largest insurance player in the creditor market. The creditor market is currently worth £5bn in gross written premium. Norwich Union currently underwrites £1.2bn of this.
DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited - Legal Expenses cover
DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited was established in 1975 and is the largest legal expenses insurer in the UK, with the head office based in Bristol. It is owned by DAS International of Munich, the largest legal expenses insurer in Europe and has a Standard and Poors rating of 'A'.
DAS's gross premium income in 2004 was £105 million. They have approximately 500 staff in the UK and are regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
DAS's major business partners include: Norwich Union, Halifax, Esure, Fortis, Groupama, Nationwide, NIG, AON, CIS. Co-Operative Insurance and Zurich.
