What may not be covered...

Our Home Insurance and optional extras are designed to cover unforeseen events which could leave you severely out of pocket through no fault of your own, but it doesn’t cover everything. For example, we can't cover certain events which cause damage to properties whilst the property is left unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row or damage caused from general wear and tear that naturally happens over time. Loss or damage by theft or attempted theft, unless force and/or violence is used to get into or out of your home. For full details of what's covered and what's not covered in our latest home insurance product please read our latest Home Insurance Policy Booklet

Please note, the cover limits mentioned on this page are specific to our latest Home Insurance product launched in 2024. Insurance originally purchased before this date might have different benefits and exclusions.

How to buy

We recommend talking to a professional such as a mortgage or financial adviser to see if they recommend a Paymentshield policy. The professional will get an in-depth understanding of your current situation, give advice on what's best for you and offer the following:

  • Tailored cover options to meet your needs
  • Clarity on what optional extras are right for you
  • Answers to all your questions
  • A full understanding of what is and isn't covered
  • A professional, independent view

To be eligible to take out our Home Insurance policy we ask that the property to be insured:

  • Is a residential property in the UK
  • Will be occupied permanently by you and your family and isn't used for any business or professional purposes other than clerical work undertaken by you and your family.
  • Hasn't been affected by subsidence, landslip or heave.
  • Hasn't been flooded in the last 10 years
  • Isn't left unoccupied for more than 60 days.

We also ask that:

  • You or any member of your family living with you hasn't had insurance cancelled, declined or declared void.
  • You or any member of your family living with you declare any previous insurance claims from the last 5 years
  • You must declare any convictions which you or any member of your family has received, not including driving offences or any offences which are spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 or the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012
